Housing Choice Voucher Program Section 8

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, commonly referred to as "Section 8", enables low-income families in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin to rent safe housing that is affordable in the private market through funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  By enrolling in the program you will receive a voucher that allows a portion of your rent to be paid directly to a property manager or a property owner by the Fond du Lac County Housing Authority.


The Fond du Lac County Housing Authority provides rental assistance to approximately 436 families in Fond du Lac County under the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

What is the Process?

Names are selected from the waiting list based on preferences and date of application.  Once selected the following steps summarize the process to become a Housing Choice Voucher family:

  1. Apply Online
  2. Housing Authority selects applicants from waiting list and schedules interview
  3. Housing Authority verifies information
  4. Attend a voucher briefing and get your voucher
  5. Use your voucher by turning in a filled out Request for Tenancy form
  6. Await inspection results
  7. Await rent decision
  8. Sign the lease
  9. Move in, pay rent and utilities
  10. Comply with HUD & Fond du Lac County Housing Authority rules & regulations
